Seasonally Challenged

Well, Spring is here.  Sunshine, birds singing, blooming flowers, longer days, allergies….you name it and it spells out Spring.  Outdoor activities and sports have resumed, and time with family and friends is shared.  It’s a beautiful season that many have anticipated for months.

I love this time of year and the brightness it brings.  Weeks ago, I sat out a colorful arrangement on our mantle, not noticing that the chalkboard above it still pertained to Christmas.  We have been so busy, I simply had not had the time to update it to the current season.  It’s safe to say, our kitchen looks a little confused.  One foot in winter, one foot in spring.  Upon noticing the distinction, I immediately recognized the spiritual principle behind it.  Sometimes we are confused about the season.  And sometimes, while embracing a new, fresh journey, we find ourselves clinging to something in the past. A part of us longs to move forward and see what lies ahead, while another urges us to stay put or even retreat.  Whatever the description may be, it’s confusion, and it’s not of God.

I don’t know about you, but I have found myself in spiritual limbo one too many times.  I desire more than anything to fully embrace all that the Lord has for me and I’m eager to trust Him more.  Yet some days, it’s hard.  There are times I find myself looking back on what used to be.  Times where I feel shame from the life I used to lead and the decisions I made.  There are seasons of the soul where I’ve walked through dryness and bitter cold, and that can be hard to let go of.  The enemy of this world would like nothing more than to steal what God is trying to bring forth.  The very thing God wants to do in you could unlock revival.  It could unleash new dreams and vision for you and your family.  I’m a strong believer that when life gets hard and tough situations arise, God has something greater in store for us….if we don’t become weary.  If we will stop looking back.

My prayer for each of us is to really press in to the season we are in and allow God to unfold the beauty of it.  There is always something we can learn, always something He wants to teach us.  I pray we are available to hear it.  So that we can run with His vision.  So we will be firm in knowing who He is, and who we are through Christ.  And so that we can share the good news with the world around us.
